Code of Conduct

“The sustainability of the Odemira and Aljezur territory depends on the ethical commitment of each of our producers.”

The present Code of Conduct establishes the set of principles and values that should govern the actions of all AHSA associates.

1. Context

AHSA associates are governed by the highest principles regarding agricultural practices, environmental protection, and the rights of their workers.
Most of them have GLOBAL GAP certification and tend to add the GRASP module, specific to social issues.
While the mentioned certifications are not yet a generalized practice, all associates commit to respecting the Code of Conduct indicated below, and this commitment is confirmed by signing this document.

2. Code

There are 5 pillars to this code of conduct. AHSA associates commit to:
a) Human Rights
  • Respect and promote Human Rights, not tolerating their violations such as, for example, the use of child labor, forced labor, slavery, or human trafficking, directly or indirectly.
b) Labor Rights
  • No discrimination based on race, sex, religion, or sexual orientation.
  • Guarantee fair and equitable monetary remuneration and benefits, always respecting and/or exceeding legislation, including compliance with legal working hours.
  • Ensure knowledge and training for their workers.
  • To the extent permitted by law, the employer will try to ensure the dignity of the accommodation used by the worker.
c) Environment
  • Do everything possible to reduce the consumption of natural resources, with particular emphasis on water, working to ensure maximum efficiency of use.
  • Promote environmental responsibility – 3 R’s.
  • Growing search for clean and innovative technologies.
  • Strict compliance with all applicable environmental legislation – Implementation of policies/procedures/systems that improve performance and minimize environmental impact.
  • Increasingly seek to measure and reduce environmental impact.
  • Promote biodiversity.
d) Health and Safety
  • Systematically identify, control, and prevent risks.
  • Ensure means of protection and training in prevention, health, and safety for workers.
  • At all times, the food safety of produced foods is a priority and non-negotiable.
e) Ethical Conduct
  • Comply with and encourage compliance with good ethical conduct practices.
  • Do not provide unauthorized third-party data.
  • Do not tolerate any form of corruption, fraud, or non-compliance with tax obligations.
