My name is Tiago Rocha and I’m from Vila Nova de Gaia. I completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering in Porto. I have always wanted to work in the country’s largest agricultural production area, and that dream brought me to the Alentejo coast. I work in the Food Safety department at Driscoll’s, which is quite challenging. Living and working in this area has been an incredible experience, both because of the direct contact with nature and the quality of life the region offers us.

I came to Portugal in 2001 on a three-month work contract, and decided to stay in the Alentejo. I started out picking small fruits, but soon moved up to the role of supervisor and worked for several different companies. I’m currently at Alenbaga. (…) I love living in Portugal! The weather is lovely, it’s safe, and the people are friendly.

After completing my degree in Lisbon, the city where I’ve always lived, my aim has always been to combine working in agricultural production for companies that offer a good level of experience and learning with living in a coastal region. I realised that it was on the Alentejo coast that I would be able to find all these things, and the experience so far couldn’t be better. I am very pleased to be able to work here, contribute to the growth of this region and enjoy all the good things it has to offer.
